“Not for ourselves alone are we born.”

I still remember the day when my father and I went to his friend’s home. It was his son’s birthday who used to study in convent school.

The child asked me basic introduction questions such as what is your name, which class do you study in etc? I stammered in speaking english at that time due to fear of being judged. I felt very akward that day and said to myself, ‘Yes I can do it.’ I decided to gain confidence in speaking English and today thank him for that conversation.

Getting distinction marks at District or State level and make your parents proud is dream of every parents so as my father did. He was so excited to see those parents being interviewed on the success of their wards.

I again said to myself, ‘Yes I can do it.’ Having said that, I studied very hard to get 1st position at State level. Though did not get 1st position at State level but stood topper at District level and that success helped to get my parents interviewed. That was another exciting day of my life and I experienced tears of joy.

There are many such incidents wherein others helped me to unleash my hidden potentials. We all are social beings so altogether connected with a thread of SUPPORT for each other.

Here are some of the qualities which can help you to learn from others:

1. Be open minded — ‘We dont see things as they are. We see them as we are’. This thought shrinks your ability of thought process. Open mindedness relates to the way in which people approach the views and knowledge of others, and it meant to be respected. Being open minded is generally considered a positive quality which can be nurtured and helps to learn new things.

2. Have self-confidence — As every action starts by you so with confidence. Confidence is something you create withing yourself by believing in who YOU are. If we lack in self confidence, we will not be able to achieve our targets. Have faith in your calibre and if required, work on them to gain more confidence.

3. Perseverance — ‘To take the first step seems to be tough, but perseverance is tougher.’ I remember a quote here that ‘A stone broken by the last stroke of hammer that does not mean that first stroke was useless. Success is the result of continuous and persistent effort’. Small and regular efforts are definitely counted.

4. Make criticism your stepping stone — No body is perfect and we all are criticized in an aspect of life. Never listen to those who themselves did not follow the route, you want to follow and accomplish. Despite all the negativity you encounter, the biggest roadblock will always be yourself. Make criticism like a burning fire in you which does not settle down until the purpose is achieved.

5. Remain competitive — Competition is an elementary, universal, and impersonal form of social interaction and it is must to evolve better your-self in every aspect such as academics, performance, relationships etc. Confidence is indispensable in social life and there is a thin line of difference between healthy and unhealthy competition so we need to be mindful of degree of competition. I always have healthy competition with others to explore my hidden capability and bring innovation in my act for efficiency.

As a closure note, I would like to share my favorite quote:

“Believe you can and you are halfway through there.”
